I love the story of Mary and Joseph. As I think about Christmas, I can't stop thinking about how Mary and Joseph were just normal people. Normal people called to do something exceptional. I can't imagine how scared and initimidated they must have been by the daunting task that lay before them. After Christ's birth, they would have been exhausted. Mary's stomach would still have been very swollen. She would have been learning how to breastfeed. They would have felt scared and intimated, I am sure. I wanted to capture what I imagine to be that very sacred, intimate, exhausting, overwheling feeling after Christ's birth. I am so grateful, not only for Christ, but for His earthly parents who sacrificed so much for Him.
