This is an original watercolor painting on professional watercolor paper. The original painting is 7x7 inches.

This is something my friend said to me this week as I was discussing my struggles with anxiety and depression with her. What she said really struck me, and I thought back to the many days I’ve spent learning about Christ and the attributes He possessed. In my mind, ‘positivity’ as we know it, was not one of them. But hope/faith was. I am not saying that a positive attitude cannot help you in your life. In certain situations, I know that can be helpful. However, toxic positivity is real, and sometimes telling someone it will all work out or to cheer up, or to chin up and put a smile on their face might be the worst thing you could do for them. Sometimes life is just hard, and it’s okay to be sad. You don’t have to be ‘positive’ about that. But you can have hope that one day, your struggles will all make sense, that you will overcome them, and that you will be happy again. Hope has worked miracles in my life and seen me through hard days. This was a huge realization for me, so I wanted to share it with you.
